My name is Allison French and this is my 5th year teaching at Wexler Grant Community School. My undergraduate degree is from Keene State College in Elementary Education and I have a Masters Degree from Sacred Heart University in Education. I taught in Nashua, New Hampshire and in Shelton, CT before I came to Wexler Grant. I am excited to be teaching Math and Science to 5th Grade this school year!
Supplies: Each student has a Math binder and a Science notebook that is kept in the classroom. Classwork, homework, vocabulary, notes, and quizzes/tests will be included in this binder. Students are expected to bring a pencil and 2 folders (1 for Math and 1 for Science) to class every day. These folders are used for bringing homework home and back to school for both Math and Science.
Homework policy: Homework will be given every day in Math class. It is very important that your child completes the homework every night. Homework is always a review of the day’s lesson. Your child needs to practice Math skills every day in order to be successful. Homework is worth 15% percent of your child’s grade. I encourage you to check and review your child’s homework folder every night!
We have Chrome Books! A chrome book cart has been assigned to the classroom and is used at least 3 times week!
*Moby Max-A Math program used on the chrome books at least 2 times a week to help with fact fluency and basic math skills(every student has a login!)
*Think Central-Textbook resource used on the chrome book where a teacher models a math lesson, the teacher and student do the math together, independent practice for the student, and quiz at the end of each lesson. Each quiz grade is emailed to myself and progress is monitored.
*Gizmo's-Interactive Math lessons aligned to Connecticut state standards where students get a deeper understanding of a concept and skill and apply it to real world math situations.
